In 1973 Gary Smith began selling lodging properties along with other business opportunities. He began to focus on hospitality properties in 1980. Michigan Motel Brokers was founded in 1985 to provide specialized brokerage services to the hospitality industry.
Meril Dean joined the company in 1990 and in 2000 SMITH DEAN was formed. Ron Burgett, a 15 year veteran of the hospitality industry joined the team in 2007 as a partner and the company has now evolved into SMITH DEAN BURGETT. All the while maintaining our hands on approach to hotel brokerage, but now with a national presence and wider reach.
Gary Smith was named the Top Broker for the North Central Region of the United States by HBI: Hotel Brokers International in 1999 and 2000 based on sales volume and number of properties sold. Mr. Smith has been awarded the prestigious Salesman of the Year by HBI twice in his career. Meril Dean was named the Top Salesman for the North Central Region of the United States by HBI in 1999 and 2001.
